Weight and Balance variables in adidas rackets
Padel rackets have their different advantages and, occasionally, shortcomings. But for all their features that players either prefer or not, rackets are not able to change their characteristics. That was until Weight and Balance System technology was developed that allows the adidas rackets that incorporate it to vary their weight and balance to adapt their behavior to the player's needs in each match. The same racket can actually have different characteristics from match-to-match depending on the chosen configuration. Let’s find out more!
How does the Weight and Balance System technology work?
The Weight and Balance System technology consists of a system of six removable screws located on the bridge of the racket. Depending on the number of pieces that are inserted, the weight will be greater or less with a variation of up to twelve grams.
The position of this system in the racket, between the handle and the head, is not random. Beyond influencing the total weight of the product, the presence or absence of the screws makes it the heaviest part of the racket, completely altering its balance:
- The racket WITH all the pieces on concentrates its balance. In other words, the point carrying most weight is in the middle-lower part of the racket. The fact that it is in a position closer to the grip provides more control when playing shots.
- The racket WITHOUT the weights is obviously lighter. It also moves the balance of the racket up to a centimeter and a half upwards. The weight loss is concentrated in the lower part, so the head becomes heavier overall. This aspect allows the player to generate more power in the shot.
As the saying goes, things aren’t always black and white. A player can incorporate only some of the bolts and find alternate points of balance and the weight, according to their needs.
The rackets that incorporate the Weight and Balance System technology
The Weight and Balance System technology is exclusive to the Metalbone range. It first appeared in the adidas 2021 collection. In 2022, these are the rackets that have this removable weight system:
