Ale Galán ends season with Masters Final win in Barcelona

Ale Galán capped off a fine season by winning the Barcelona Master Final with compatriot Juan Lebron against Argentine pair Fede Chingotto y Martín Di Nenno. The adidas player and his partner won a brilliant final 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 at the Palau Sant Jordi.

Galán and Lebrón have been the outstanding pair on the circuit once again this season and were recently confirmed as ending as the world number 1’s for the third consecutive year. And in the final tournament of the season, they once again showed they were a cut above the rest in settling a brilliant contest against Chingotto and De Nenno.

Pushed all the way in the final

Having seen off fellow adidas player Alex Ruiz and his partner Jeronimo Gonzalez in the semi-finals, Galán and Lebron came into the final as the favourites. But they were pushed all the way in front of a packed house at the Palau Sant Jordi.

In the first set, Chingotto and Di Nenno went toe-to-toe with the number one pair until late on. It wasn’t until their last service game that they were broken and Galán and Lebron took the opener 6-4.

The Spanish duo took an early break in the second set, and you could be forgiven for thinking they would race away and claim the title in straight sets, especially with Galán looking comfortable and showing off his wonderful array of shots with his new Metalbone HRD 3.2. But the Argentine pair had other ideas and broke back, taking the set to a tie break, in which they prevailed to equal the match.

In the fifth game of the final set, Galán and Lebron broke once more, and from there they never took their foot off the gas, breaking once more to seal the set 6-2. And with that they lifted the title and were confirmed as the Masters once more.

They now go away for a well-earned break but will be looking to see how they will take the game to new heights in the new campaign in 2023.

Martita bows out at semi-final stage

It wasn’t to be for adidas player Marta Ortega in the women’s draw as she bowed out at the semi-final stage. Despite playing some brilliant shots with her new Adipower Light 3.2, Martita and her partner, Beatriz Gonzalez went down 4-6, 5-7 against tournament winners Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay.

She won’t be downbeat though, having recently won the Padel World Championship with Spain in Dubai, and after a break over Christmas, will look to hit the ground running again in 2023.
