Galán opens season with title in Riyadh
Ale Galán has started the year in the best possible way. The adidas player from Madrid won the first tournament of the season held in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh. In the final, which was a brilliant advert for padel, Galán and his partner, Juan Lebrón, beat Coello and Tapia 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. In this way, the adidas player starts the year in style and is already seeking a return to the number 1 position in the Premier Padel ranking.
The first tournament of the year is always special. For Galan, this time was even more so. After losing the number one spot last year, after three years reigning in the World Padel Tour rankings, the Spanish player started the season with the extra motivation to regain the throne. Added to this fact is the revolution that professional padel is experiencing this year worldwide with the consolidation of Premier Padel as the only circuit. Faced with new showcase events, the best always want to start off on top.
However, Galán's start in 2024 has been stratospheric and, thanks to that, he has been able to add the P1 in Riyadh to his trophy cabinet.

A final to remember
The final of the tournament was the culmination of a spectacular start to the season. Ale, along with his partner Juan Lebron, defeated those who finished 2023 as number 1 in the World Padel Tour: Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia. The match was a sensational three set battle in which every point was fought to the point of exhaustion.
The first set was resolved in the tiebreak and fell on the opponent's side. Galán and his partner fought back from a break down to force a tie-break, but were unable to complete the comeback. However, the improving trend continued in the second set, where a break in the ninth game, just at the decisive moment, gave them the set.
In the last and final set, the break came much earlier, in the third game. But that meant that the they had to defend that advantage much longer. Coello and Tapia's pressure resulted in three break points in the eighth game. One by one, Galán and Lebrón got them back, the second with a shot from Galán from another planet. Game, set, match and title in Riyadh.

An immaculate tournament
The image of Ale lifting the trophy has five matches behind it, each one more complicated than the last. Until the semifinals the Spanish duo didn’t drop a single set. However, the round of 16 match against Jon Sanz and Coki Nieto was very hard fought (7-5 and 6-3).
In the semifinals they faced another of the in-form pairs, Martin di Nenno and Franco Stupaczuk. It took three sets, although the victory was convincing: 6-2, 4-6 and 6-1.
Although as a pair, Galan and his partner are already number one, in the individual ranking Coello still occupies the highest position. However, this victory in Riyadh leaves Ale less than 400 points away from that top spot. That means that a good result in the next tournament could come with a return to the top spot.
